The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a professional association, formed in 1963, and it is the world's largest association of technical professionals with more than 420,000 members in over 160 countries around the world. On Nov. 29, Secretary of the Party Committee of NEEPU, Li Guoqing met with President-elect 2017 of IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES), Prof. Saifur Rahman at the VIP room of academic exchange center. They discussed how to develop cooperation between the two parties.  Member of the Standing Committee, director of Department of Scientific & Technological Research and Application, Yan Gangui, director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Han Shumin, vice dean of School of Electrical Engineering, An Jun attended the meeting. 

Li Guoqing welcomed Prof. Saifur Rahman and he introduced NEEPU. He said that NEEPU pays high attention to international cooperation and exchange and we would like to become partner with IEEE. He believes that this will help improve NEEPU’s education standard. Prof. Saifur Rahman introduced IEEE and he also expressed his willingness to develop cooperation with NEEPU. 

The meeting is followed by guest professor appointment ceremony of Prof. Saifur Rahman and a symposium. Director of Human Resources Department, Qin Li announced the appointment document. President Cai Guowei awarded the certificate to Prof. Saifur Rahman. The topic of the symposium is ‘IOT Sensor Integration from Smart Buildings to the Smart Grid’. A heated discussion was followed. 

Prof. Saifur Rahman is the founding director of the Advanced Research Institute at Virginia Tech, USA where he is the Joseph R. Loring professor of electrical and computer engineering. He also directs the Center for Energy and the Global Environment. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and an IEEE Millennium Medal winner.

On Nov. 30, NEEPU signed MOU with IEEE PES. President Cai Guowei and Prof. Saifur Rahman signed the MOU on behalf of the two parties.
